TOPIC: CHALLENGES AFFECTING SERVICE DELIVERY IN GUIDANCE AND COUNSELING UNITS IN THREE SELECTED PRIMARY SCHOOLS IN SESHEKE DISTRICT, WESTERN PROVINCE

This study investigated challenges affecting the delivery of guidance and counselling services in three primary schools in Sesheke District, Zambia. The objectives were to identify the types of services offered, the challenges in delivering these services, and measures to improve service delivery. The study involved a sample of 70 participants, including teachers, head teachers, and pupils, and used a case study design with semistructured questionnaires and interviews. The findings revealed that educational, personal, and social guidance were commonly offered, but challenges such as inadequate facilities, negative attitudes from pupils, and lack of trained personnel hindered effective service delivery. Despite these challenges, the counselling services positively impacted pupils behavior and decision-making.
